The Beauty Studio launches in Petervale
With its elegant black, white and gold theme and charming staff – pop into The Beauty Studio – Petervale to bring some glam into your next salon experience!
On arrival, I was greeted with a smile by the Salon Manager, Dolly, and offered something refreshing to drink soon after. As I was pampered in style, with mimosa in hand, I had a lovely chat to Co-Owner Kathleen about how The Beauty Studio came to be.
It’s clear that Kathleen is proud of her team of 6, and you can tell that everyone loves working there. Katlego and Amanda, who were the therapists that did my mani and pedi; were really friendly, pleasant and professional. When I came back a week later to see the grand opening of the gorgeous new space, the staff were just as great! It’s no wonder that their vision is to be the Beauty Salon of choice for the best client experience in the Northern Suburbs of Johannesburg.
Treatments
The Beauty Studio offers a range of treatments with a focus on skin and nails. They offer manis, pedis, facials, waxing from head to toe, massage, spray tans and make-up services.
And when it comes to nails – not only do they offer polish/lacquer, gel, acrylic and poly gel options – but they also offer creative nail art services.
Within the next 18 months they plan to expand into advanced skin treatments and further expand in three years to include a hair studio as well.
Retail
They stock Optiphi, Environ, Artistic, Gelish, OPI and Morgan Taylor products amongst others in the salon; as well as high premium weaves.
Location, location, location
The Beauty Studio, situated in Petervale, is perfectly located in a private centre away from the hustle and bustle of a big mall. The central location at Petervale Shopping Centre on Cambridge Road, is easily accessible to those in and around the Fourways, Bryanston, Sandton areas; who would prefer a salon with a personal touch.

Founded in 2018, The Beauty Studio originally operated as Tammy Taylor Nails but owners, Takalani and Kathleen Mavhunga, decided to rebrand so that they could expand the treatment and retail offering.
The owners took the time to answer some questions about the inspiration behind the new name and space; as well as the challenges and perks of owning a business. Discover more below.
1. What is the inspiration behind the name?
Studio is defined as “a room where an artist, photographer, sculptor, etc. works.” Beauty is our Art.
2. What was the inspiration behind the salon’s décor?
The desire for simplicity and the love for black, white and gold.
3. If you only had one word to describe your business, what would it be?
Elegance.
4. What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
The client experience.
5. How did you get involved in the cosmetology field?
Kathleen: The love of beauty as a client of industry.
6. What do you like best about your line of work?
Getting to meet amazing clients and listening to a satisfied client who we have helped.
7. How long have you owned your salon?
19 Months.
8. What are the perks of owning your own business?
Freedom to express one’s innovative creativity.
9. What is it about owning your own business that excites you most?
Clients (diversity of interests) and the beauty industry; it is forever changing.
10. What has been your business’ biggest challenge so far?
Sales and marketing – getting the word out to our target market in the most effective way.
11. What do you think is most important to look out for when hiring new staff?
Values, energy and character – skills can be trained.
12. What qualities do you admire the most in your employees?
Honesty, trust and hard work.
13. What is your personal favourite treatment?
Honestly can’t pick one – facials and nails.
14. Do you have any plans to expand your franchise? Kindly describe why or why not?
Not yet; not ruled out and not a focus at the moment.
15. What is something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business?
Both Co-Owners are heavily involved with NPO work individually.
